What is a “mommy makeover”?

During pregnancy, birth and once the baby is born, women’s bodies change. It’s natural for your body to look and feel different. But do you wish you could return to the way your body looked before having a child? Have you thought about a “mommy makeover”?
You deserve to feel your best as well as look your best. Learn how MercyOne Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery can help you:
Breast lift or breast augmentation
It’s normal for your breasts to lower as you age and change after breastfeeding. Your breasts may look droopy or deflated over time. Based on your desired appearance, our surgeons can tailor the procedure.
A breast lift or “mastopexy” corrects breast droopiness. The incision for this procedure can vary from a circle around the areola alone, a vertical incision along the central breast, and/or a horizontal incision running along the lower breast fold.
A breast augmentation means adding volume to the breast by placing an implant. This can help with the deflated appearance the breasts can develop over time. Most commonly, an augmentation is performed through an incision above the lower breast fold. Other options include an incision that traces the border of the areola or in the armpit.
You may decide you want both a breast lift and augmentation as part of your “mommy makeover,” which is known as a mastopexy-augmentation.
Tummy tuck
Sensibly, the stomach is the area most affected by pregnancy. You may notice the skin on your abdomen is loose and may look like a pouch. The skin pouch is caused by the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles in the center of the abdomen. The separation of the muscles is called diastasis which can be minor or severe; everyone is different.
Through a tummy tuck, excess skin is removed, and the diastasis is repaired.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure that commonly treats areas on the sides of the body between the lower ribs and hips, as well as inner thighs. But every mom has different areas they may want to improve. Liposuction can be a popular procedure for a “mommy makeover” since your body changes so much after giving birth. An option is to receive multiple liposuction procedures at once to make efficient use of your time.
During a liposuction procedure, a small incision will be made in an unnoticeable area, such as in the belly button for abdominal liposuction or near the groin crease for inner thigh liposuction.
