Areas of Impact: MercyOne Medical Group
April 29, 2021
Donor support helps provide innovative technology and equipment to different areas of MercyOne Central Iowa, improving patient care.
Recently MercyOne Clive Physical Therapy and MercyOne Pleasant Hill Physical Therapy purchased two pairs of InfraRed Goggles. These goggles where funded through philanthropy.
“We use the InfraRed Goggles during evaluations for patients with vestibular disorders,” said Jenna Carpenter, physical therapist at MercyOne Pleasant Hill Physical Therapy.
Vestibular disorders are disorders of the body’s balance system. Dizziness and vertigo are both symptoms of this disorder.
“The InfraRed Goggles record eye movements, so we can see any little changes or movements that we might not be able to see with the naked eye,” said Samantha Jungman, physical therapist at MercyOne Clive Physical Therapy. “The vestibular system can cause really challenging issues for patients so getting them better is important to me.”
“The goggles help us diagnose and confirm diagnoses,” said Jenna. “We are able to pick up more diagnoses than we would be able to without them.”
The InfraRed Goggles are also being used as a training tool for students studying physical therapy.
Jenna and Samantha are grateful for this innovative technology and encourage others to support MercyOne Medical Group.
“Thank you,” said Jenna. “It is important to be innovative to improve the way we personalize care for our patients.”
“MercyOne puts the patient first and donated funds go directly to helping patients improve their quality of life,” said Samantha. “We appreciate the support.”
