MercyOne announces more than 8,500 births and top baby names in 2024

Des Moines, Iowa; January 8, 2025 — MercyOne Birth Centers helped 8,514 babies make their 2024 debuts in our hospitals. This includes more than 4,094 boys, 3,942 girls, 141 sets of twins and two sets of triplets.

Olivia, Mia, Eleanor, and Amelia were the top girl names, with Liam, Oliver, Theodore, and Henry topping the boy’s list in Des Moines and West Des Moines birth centers.

Theodore was also a contender in Davenport, Silvis and Mason City. Charlotte finished strong in Davenport, Dubuque and Mason City. Girls’ names beginning with E, including Emma, Ellie, and Elise, were popular in several areas.

MercyOne’s top baby names seemed to follow national trends reported by babycenter.com for 2024. The site reports Noah, Liam and Oliver as the most popular boy names, with Olivia, Amelia and Emma leading the girl’s list.
