MercyOne North Iowa receives grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity
April 9, 2025Mason City, Iowa – The MercyOne North Iowa Foundation has received a $60,000 grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to fund new monitoring technology for the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Variety grant will purchase a central monitor and seven bedside monitors for MercyOne North Iowa’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As the only Level II NICU within our 15-county service area, this technological upgrade will allow NICU staff to monitor vulnerable infants’ vitals at the bedside and remotely from a central screen.

"This grant provides vital technology for our NICU, improving care for our newborns and supporting our rural families who depend on us to be there when they need us most.”
The equipment enables less critical NICU babies to safely stay in the room with their parents because the vitals can be seen on the central monitor at the nurses’ station. At the same time, staff can still monitor overall patient well-being and quickly respond to any emergent situations at the bedside.
