3. What’s “Talk with a Recruiter”?
Talk with a Recruiter is a virtual event designed for RNs, LPNs and allied health professionals to connect directly with the MercyOne recruitment team. These conversations happen every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and offer:

Allied health includes laboratory, emergency services, imaging, pharmacy, therapy, respiratory, surgical technologists, dieticians, medical assistants and social workers.
4. What’s “Walk-in Wednesday”?
Walk-in Wednesday is your chance to meet MercyOne recruiters and hiring leaders in person — no appointment needed. This monthly event focuses on clinical positions including:

Do I need a resume to apply?
A resume is preferred. It helps our recruitment team better understand your experience and qualifications.
Can I apply for multiple positions?
Yes! We encourage you to apply for any roles that match your skills and interests.
What happens after I submit my application?
Your application is reviewed by our recruitment team. If it’s a good fit, it’s shared with the hiring manager. You’ll then be contacted to schedule an initial interview. Most candidates can expect 2–3 additional interviews to meet team members and ensure mutual alignment.
How long does the process typically take?
Most hiring processes take 2–4 weeks, depending on the role, team availability and candidate volume.
How long does a background check take?
Background checks typically take 2–3 weeks, including occupational health processing. We recommend giving your current employer a two weeks’ notice if applicable.
Do you have PRN positions available?
Yes. Most units offer PRN roles for experienced professionals. If you're new to a unit, you'll need to commit time for proper orientation.
What shift options are available?
We hire all shifts. Visit the careers page to find openings that match your availability.
Does MercyOne hire new graduates?
Absolutely! We welcome new grads and offer opportunities across clinical and support roles.
Do I need to be licensed or certified before applying?
Licensure and certification requirements vary by role. Please refer to the job description for specific qualifications. Students who are in the final stages of their education are welcome to apply; a spot will be held pending completion of the program.
MercyOne’s JUMPSTART program supports nursing students in their final year.
Here’s how it works:
- Earn a $2,000 monthly stipend during your last 9 months of RN education.
- MercyOne reimburses board and licensure fees.
- Begin your career with MercyOne after licensure (18-month retention required).
Key responsibilities:
- Assist with patient care and hygiene.
- Measure vital signs and perform bedside testing.
- Support procedures, admissions and discharges.
- Respond to patient needs and ensure safety.
- Document care and report changes in condition.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an accredited RN program
- Age 18 or older
- Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire
- BLS certification within 6 weeks of hire
Travel and Float Pool Opportunities
Are there travel or float pool positions available within the system?

Does MercyOne offer on-the-job training programs?
Yes! MercyOne is committed to helping individuals start and grow their careers in health care through paid training programs across multiple disciplines. These programs are ideal for those new to the field or looking to transition into a clinical role.
Featured programs include:
Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTT)
- Earn while you learn — work full-time earning $16.26/hour while completing 500 hours required for certification.
- All book, testing and certification fees are covered by MercyOne.
- Upon completion and certification, you’ll be eligible for a permanent pharmacy technician role with a pay increase. Must be 16 years or older and able to obtain National Pharmacy Technician Certification and register with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within one year of hire.
Patient Care Technician (PCT) Training Program
- 150 hours of classroom, skills lab and clinical learning
- Paid education and benefits
- No prior CNA experience required
- Available in Des Moines, Dubuque, Mason City and Waterloo
Medical assistant Training Programs
- Internal and external options available
- Paid books and materials
- Promotion to CMA and bonus after certification
