2021 Child Life Easter Egg Fundraiser

A recent Easter Egg Hunt Fundraiser held by the MercyOne Children’s Hospital Pediatrics Department raised over $2,900 in support of MercyOne Des Moines Child Life services.

For $25, individuals received 25 Easter eggs filled with surprise treats, toys and a special note from a MercyOne Children’s Hospital patients so families could enjoy a fun, safe Easter egg hunt in the convenience of their own homes.

MercyOne Des Moines Child Life Specialists help with the adjustment of hospitalization and teach kids about procedures. They prep young patients by showing them actual medical equipment, and the specialists remain with the children during the procedures themselves. If an adult is diagnosed, specialists can help with children/grandchildren and other young family members that are present.

Child Life Specialists use evidence-based practices including therapeutic play, preparation and assessment. Research shows that when kids are prepared, they have a better medical outcome including a shorter recovery time and less of a need for anesthesia.
