MercyOne Children’s Hospital Heart Superheroes will be featured virtually at the 2021 Principal Charity Classic, June 4-6. These seven children – ranging in age from four years old to 14 years old – are all former patients who experienced life-saving cardiac care surgeries and procedures at MercyOne Children’s Hospital.

The Heart Superheroes will be featured on the MercyOne Des Moines Foundation, MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and Principal Charity Classic social media accounts leading up and during the tournament. More information on the 2021 Heart Superheroes and pediatric cardiac care program can be found at MercyOne.org/heart-superheroes.

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is pleased to have served as a Principal Charity Classic Tournament Charity Partners since 2016. Proceeds from Principal Charity Classic have impacted the pediatric cardiac care program at MercyOne Children’s Hospital in meaningful ways. Most recently, 2019 proceeds funded a new, advanced Sonosite machine, 2018 proceeds funded a new, innovative echocardiography machine and 2017 funds were utilized to launch the innovative new Beads of Courage program.

The Principal Charity Classic, the annual and award-winning PGA TOUR Champions event in Des Moines, raised a record $5.7 million in support of Iowa kids in 2020. The event has now donated more than $30 million since 2007. Funds raised by the Principal Charity Classic support four Tournament Charity Partners in the Des Moines area – including MercyOne Des Moines Foundation – as well as more than 100 organizations – including MercyOne Children’s Hospital – throughout Iowa enrolled in the tournament’s “Birdies For Charity” program.
