About

I'm Laura Abels. I have lived in the central Iowa area since I started medical school in 2008. I'm originally from Fort Wayne, IN but I have lived all around the Midwest. I went to undergraduate at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and minors in business and pre-medical sciences. I did a post-baccalaureate program in Philadelphia, PA at Drexel University College of Sciences to improve my science background before medical school. I graduated from Des Moines University in 2008 and did my residency locally at Mercy Medical Center in Family Medicine. I have a special interest in preventive care and mental health. I also enjoy using my Spanish with patients. I like spending time with my husband, my daughter and our cats. I like traveling and volunteering. A fun fact is that I used to be a competitive bowler. I would like prospective patients to know that I am there to listen and create a plan. If I don't know something I will find it out!

She is the only doctor that I know will do what is needed to treat my illness. It is too bad that she is so busy and sometimes I have to have a different doctor. I have was always had good treatment with the on call doctors.

In my opinion a doctor receives no higher praise than when a mother refers her daughters for the Dr's care. I have referred my daughters to Dr Ables because she takes such great care of me.

Cannot get in when needed. One nurse is rude, doesn't have time for you and makes you feel like a real bother. Front desk...transfers you all over till you give up. Everyone seems indefferent.

I've had a very hard time trying to find a doctor that I like real well and that would pay attention to what I had to say and not try to rush me through and not try to help me with my problems and Dr Laura abels listen to everything I said and she got me set up with the doctors that I needed to go to and I'm very pleased with my visit
