Ambassador desk volunteer plays a vital role in providing a welcoming and helpful environment for patients, families and visitors when they enter our facilities. Volunteers will greet guests, provide directions and general information, transport patients in wheelchairs, look up room numbers and help with front desk deliveries.
Care companion provides emotional support and companionship to patients who may be experiencing loneliness or anxiety during their hospital stay. This role helps enhance patient experience by offering meaningful social interaction and a comforting presence.
Gift shop volunteer supports the daily operations of the hospital gift shop by providing excellent customer service, assisting with merchandise sales, maintaining displays and helping to create a welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. MercyOne Genesis has gift shops at both Davenport hospital locations and Silvis.
Golf cart transporter provides safe and courteous transportation for patients, visitors and staff between parking areas and hospital entrances using designated golf carts. The role helps ensure a welcoming and accessible experience for all guests arriving at our East Campus in Davenport.
Lobby musician volunteer provides live, soothing music in the hospital lobby to create a calming and uplifting atmosphere for patients, visitors and staff.
Pet therapy volunteer, along with their certified therapy animal, provides comfort, emotional support and positive distraction to patients, families and staff throughout the hospital. This program helps reduce stress, ease anxiety and enhance overall well-being.
Emergency Department waiting room volunteer provides support to patients, families and visitors in the ED waiting area. The role helps improve patient experience by offering comfort, information and non-clinical assistance while maintaining a calm and compassionate presence. Volunteers will hand out snacks and activities to guests while they wait for care.
Departmental rounding volunteer supports patient-centered care by assisting the nursing staff in non-clinical duties. Volunteers help in a specific department by answering call lights, answering phones, restocking supplies, transporting patients by wheelchair, helping in the waiting room and assisting with any special projects.
Spiritual care eucharistic minister provides spiritual support to Catholic patients by offering Holy Communion during their hospital stay. This volunteer serves as a compassionate presence, supporting the patient’s faith and emotional well-being in collaboration with the hospital’s Spiritual Care Department.
Surgical care family waiting area volunteer serves as a compassionate point of contact for families and friends waiting during a patient’s surgery. This volunteer provides comfort, information and logistical support, helping to facilitate communication between hospital staff and families.
SHIIP/SMP volunteer provides one-on-one assistance to help Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers or representatives with questions and concerns about Medicare and related health insurances. Volunteer also assists with awareness of SHIIP/SMP services with informal discussions with partners or group presentations about Medicare fraud.

At home volunteer opportunities
Knitter/Sewer volunteer supports patients and families by creating handmade items that provide comfort and care. These crafted items are used throughout the hospital in departments, such as Birth Center, NICU, Oncology and Pediatrics.
