CommonSpirit Awards Two Grants to MercyOne Central Iowa
August 25, 2020CommonSpirit Health has awarded MercyOne Central Iowa two grants through their Mission and Ministry Fund (MMF). These grants were awarded to MercyOne House of Mercy and MercyOne Newton Medical Center.
The purpose of the MMF is to provide grants for planning, development and implementation of new initiatives to promote healthy communities. During the last 24 years, CommonSpirit has award more than 550 grants totaling more than $98-million through this fund.
Currently, the world around us has drastically changed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The need for innovative health care programs to care for our community is needed now more than ever.
MercyOne House of Mercy Awarded $274,494 Three-Year Grant
This grant from the MMF directly supports House of Mercy’s commitment to providing mental health and substance use disorder treatment services for those most in need. Funding through the grant will allow House of Mercy to expand programming to increase access to vital services, each of which directly addresses gaps in care in our community, especially for individuals who are low-income and experience barriers to care.
House of Mercy was founded in 1988 by MercyOne Des Moines Medical to help address the needs of vulnerable women and their children. The organization also provides both residential and outpatient treatment services at its central campus in Des Moines, and outpatient services in two outlying rural communities.
MercyOne Newton Medical Center Awarded $502,615 Three-Year Grant
This three-year grant will assist MercyOne Newton Medical Center with the startup of a Mobile Health Clinic program which will increase health care access and improve health care outcomes for residents in rural Jasper County. The development of a Mobile Health Clinic will serve county-wide residents.
This program will be particularly beneficial for residents in communities where there is limited clinic hours or no primary care services and for those who experience barriers to care, especially transportation barriers.
MercyOne Newton has a well-deserved reputation for bucking the trend of diminished health care in rural America by enhancing the quantity and quality of its services during the last two decades. This has been accomplished through investment in technological improvements and by adding new physicians.
