Last summer, Mercy College of Health Sciences received a Prairie Meadows Grant for its Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program. This vital support allowed the college to double its program capacity, directly enhancing healthcare access across Iowa, especially in rural areas.

Initially aimed at boosting simulation capabilities, the grant's flexibility enabled Mercy College to pivot and acquire four new, clinical-grade ultrasound machines. This strategic investment not only upgraded their technology but also elevated student learning and expanded their clinical partnerships.

Looking ahead, the college plans to integrate advanced simulation technology with these new machines, offering students even more diverse clinical scenarios for enhanced preparation.

The grant's long-term impact is profound: 30 new sonographers will enter the workforce annually, contributing to over 112,000 patient encounters each year. This translates to faster diagnoses, earlier treatment, and better care for countless Iowans.

This project exemplifies the power of community collaboration and visionary philanthropy. Prairie Meadows' support was a catalyst for growth, helping Mercy College build a healthier future for its communities.
