Preparing For Your Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is one of the most important tools for preventing and detecting colorectal cancer. A clean colon helps your provider clearly see the lining of your intestine and identify any polyps, inflammation or abnormalities. For your provider to get a clear view, your colon must be free of stool or residue. Even small amounts can hide polyps or require your exam to be rescheduled. Early detection can save lives.
Proper preparation ensures the best possible results and may prevent delays or repeat procedures. At MercyOne, our goal is to make your preparation as easy and stress free as possible so you feel confident and ready for your procedure.

- If you take diabetes medications or injectable GLP 1, you may need adjustments.
- If you take blood thinners, talk with the prescribing provider and your MercyOne GI specialist to determine when it is safe to pause these medications.
- Make sure your MercyOne care team is aware of any heart stents (placed within 1 year), prosthetic heart valves, pacemaker or defibrillator—additional clearance may be needed.
