Hospitalists

If you are ever admitted to a MercyOne medical center, you will be under the care of a hospitalist. Your hospitalist will work with our expert care team and communicate with your primary care provider to provide personalized, around the clock care.

What is a hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a physician or advanced practice provider (APP) specializing in the care of hospitalized patients. Benefits of a hospitalist on your care team include:

  • Access to around-the-clock provider care.
  • Available provider in the event of unforeseen changes in your health.
  • Ability to admit and discharge to help prevent delays.
  • Communication with your primary care provider.
  • Faster delivery of orders and test results.

Upon discharge, MercyOne will forward a comprehensive report to your primary care provider for follow-up care.

Can I see my provider while I am hospitalized?

Your hospitalist will have primary responsibility for your care while you are a patient at MercyOne. They will maintain regular communication with your provider. You always have the option of contacting your provider directly if you have additional questions or concerns.

If you have questions about the hospitalist program, ask your primary nurse.
