MercyOne Dubuque Lactation Support

At MercyOne Dubuque Birth Center, lactation support care provides support to all breastfeeding parents in the tri-state area. With certified lactation consultants, resources in both English and Spanish, home medical equipment and a milk collection depot and dispensary, MercyOne’s lactation support team provides excellent, personalized care as you welcome your new bundle of joy into your family.

Lactation consultants

Our internationally board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLCs) will work with you on breastfeeding, milk supply, feeding positions and pumping. They will also provide guidance to help with common early breastfeeding questions and concerns. Our lactation team also helps you make an informed choice about your baby’s feeding.

Breastfeeding supplies

For your breastfeeding supplies, MercyOne Home Medical Equipment Store carries a variety of breast pumps and supplies that you may need. You can visit the store located on the first floor of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center or contact them through phone or email.

New Mom Support Group

If you're looking for a community of parents to connect with, MercyOne offers a New Mom Support Group that offers a safe space to ask questions, connect with other new moms and receive expert guidance. Baby weight checks are available. This support group is facilitated by a certified lactation consultant and breastfeeding educator.

Breastfeeding Class and Birth Center Tours

Designed for expecting parents in their second or third trimester, MercyOne Dubuque's prenatal Breastfeeding Class covers education on how to get off to the best possible start with breastfeeding or pumping to help you be more prepared to reach your feeding goals.  We discuss common questions and concerns, back-to-work considerations and include opportunities for personalized guidance. The class will include a tour of the birth center at 7 pm. During registration, expecting parents may choose to attend the birth center tour only or participate in both the class and the tour.

Milk Depot and Dispensary

MercyOne Dubuque Birth Center is an approved milk depot and milk dispensary through Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa.

Certified donors provide frozen milk to our depot, which is then collected and processed by the milk bank. Donor milk is an option for any baby during their stay at our birth center and is included at no extra cost.

Our birth center also offers pasteurized donor human milk for purchase to any parent or guardian in need of it for their infant. A doctor’s prescription is required, and each bottle costs $15. Please call the birth center at 563-589-8599 for drop off and pick up times.
