Corporate Spotlight: Variety – the Children’s Charity

Caring for and improving the lives of children in need in Iowa is the shared mission of MercyOne Children’s Hospital and Variety – the Children’s Charity.
For more than 40 years, MercyOne Des Moines and Variety have shared a special partnership thanks to this united mission. As one of MercyOne Des Moines Foundation’s largest grantors, Variety has awarded more than $10-million in funding to our pediatric services.
Nearly every aspect of MercyOne Children’s Hospital has benefited from Variety’s generosity. Most recently Variety funded new innovative technology in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) including a new NicView Streaming Camera System and Stryker Nara Bassinet. The NICU cares for around 700 babies annually.
“We thank Variety for the addition of this innovative camera system which has allowed families to bond with their babies and connect with their care team when they cannot be at the hospital,” said Rachel Evans, NICU Nursing Director at MercyOne Children’s Hospital.
Variety has also funded essential equipment for the pediatric cardiac care program, which performs lifesaving procedures for 90 infants and children each year.
The generosity Variety has shared has impacted MercyOne Des Moines in profound ways, transforming the care of our young patients at the Children’s Hospital. Their mission also extends to our mission-affiliate MercyOne House of Mercy.

Variety understands the critical need for state-of-the-art medical equipment in the delivery of health care to MercyOne Des Moines’ smallest patients. Without visionary funders like Variety, our pediatric health care at would be substantially different.
