MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center to Conduct Emergency Drill December 2
November 24, 2025MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center will conduct a simulated fire drill on the hospital helipad Tuesday, December 2, at 2 p.m. This exercise is designed to test emergency response coordination between MercyOne and the Des Moines Fire Department. Please note that this is only a drill. There is no actual fire or emergency.
Patients and visitors may notice increased emergency response activity near the emergency department and helipad during the drill. Normal hospital operations will continue without interruption.
“This drill ensures we are prepared to keep our patients, visitors, and colleagues safe in the event of a real emergency,” said Ryan Gochoel, Regional Emergency Transport Director for MercyOne. “Training with our partners at the Des Moines Fire Department is critical to maintaining readiness.”
MercyOne conducts these drills annually to meet accreditation standards from organizations such as The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
