MercyOne Des Moines Foundation recently hired an intern, Jack McGuire, for the summer months to assist with strengthening philanthropic efforts across MercyOne locations in Iowa. Jack recently finished his freshman year at the University of Dallas, where he is studying business. A graduate of Dowling Catholic High School, Jack grew up in Urbandale and enjoys swimming and golfing with his friends in his free time.

During his internship, Jack will be assisting MercyOne Regional Vice President of Philanthropy, Shannon Cofield, in developing a comprehensive integration plan for all MercyOne Foundations across Iowa. This involves a critical process of bringing together policies, practices, and performance metrics. By streamlining these areas, the goal is to achieve greater efficiencies and significantly boost overall fundraising production, ensuring that each foundation can rise to the challenge of growing philanthropic support for local healthcare needs.

Jack will also be working with Joan Bindel, Vice President of Philanthropy, reviewing new policy documents based on recommendations from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). This will include implementing standardized policies for crucial areas such as endowment spending, gift acceptance, and naming rights across the state.

“I’m thrilled to join the team at MercyOne Des Moines Foundation,” said Jack. “During my internship I’m hoping to learn more about business management, leadership styles, and project development.” Jack is still in his early years of college and hopes his time at the foundation will help him decide what career path to pursue. “Getting to work with leaders like Shannon and Joan has given me the opportunity to see how an office runs and the importance of communication and teamwork. I can’t wait to see what other opportunities are presented to me this summer,” explained Jack.

MercyOne Des Moines Foundation is thrilled to work with Jack this summer and can’t wait to see how he will benefit MercyOne and its mission. Welcome to the team, Jack!
