MercyOne Des Moines Foundation Non-Profit Partner Spotlight: United Way
January 16, 2026Categories: MercyOne Des Moines Foundation
MercyOne and United Way of Central Iowa share a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community. Built on shared values and a vision for a healthier future, this partnership has made a lasting impact. Since 1993, MercyOne Des Moines Foundation has raised more than $3.8 million through its Annual Campaign to support United Way and its mission.
United Way plays a critical role in identifying and addressing health needs across Central Iowa. As a key partner in MercyOne’s Community Health Needs Assessment, United Way helps us understand the most pressing challenges facing patients and families.
“The support MercyOne receives from United Way of Central Iowa is pivotal to ensuring high-quality care for all in Central Iowa,” said Shannon Cofield, President of MercyOne Des Moines Foundation. “Our communities need nurses and healthcare workers now more than ever, and through United Way’s Central Iowa HealthWorks program, MercyOne has been able to expand our circle of healing.”
United Way continues to strengthen our community by preparing the next generation of healthcare workers and supporting programs like DMARC Food Pantries, Knock and Drop Food Pantry, Primary Health Centralized Intake, and Iowa Legal Aid. Recently, United Way launched Ride United, a program that removes transportation barriers for essential services, including non-emergency medical care—helping MercyOne patients access the care they need.
Join us in supporting United Way of Central Iowa by participating in MercyOne Des Moines Foundation’s 2026 Community Partners Campaign starting Monday, February 2. Together, we can ensure United Way and MercyOne can continue to provide outstanding patient care for all in Central Iowa.
