News and Funds
At the MercyOne Genesis we are dedicated to enhancing the care delivered in the Quad Cities. Here are a few ways we meet our mission.
The legacy of Clarissa C. Cook, who lived a life of compassion and generosity, has continued for 126 years following her death and will continue for decades to come. The Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House provides a comfortable setting where patients are able to pass peacefully, without pain, and with their loved ones around them.
The Brayden Buntemeyer Fund honors the life of Brayden Buntemeyer, the son of Jenny and Jess Buntemeyer, who was born sleeping on October 21, 2011.
MercyOne Genesis Family Connects supports parents by bringing health providers, community resources and families together. Our mission is to connect families with newborns with resources that nurture the whole family and support a child’s growth.
It’s about planting seeds for the future. Together, we’re growing healthy babies and making a more prosperous community.

Thanks to donor support, the Genesis Foundation has granted funds for patient care, staff education and department needs in the McKay Center for Breast Health for many years. Because cost should never be a barrier to accessing these essential screenings, the Foundation is committed to raising the funds needed to meet the demand -- an estimated $30,000 annually.
Jim Victor was a true philanthropist and worked tirelessly to engage others in caring for their community. As part of his legacy, he established a permanent endowment fund at the Genesis Health Services Foundation to promote health care and wellness.

Gillian Christy, a Davenport native, created the one-of-a-kind Winding Walk artwork that is located along a peaceful walk outside of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. This stainless-steel column was made possible through donations by benefactors including Gillian's parents, Rebecca and Mark Christy. The sculpture is located along a peaceful, natural walk outside the hospice house.
Winding Walk features a winding stairway and an opened window with shutters. The natural element found in the window is a feather that has landed. Gillian Christy said the elements of nature in Winding Walk "express the flexibilities and intricacies of life.''
In her artwork, Gillian said she sets out to express a meaningful story, whether it is about events in her life or stories found within a community.
A 1997 graduate of Davenport West High School, Gillian Christy received a degree in fine arts from the University of Northern Iowa. She is based in Providence, R.I..
Gillian has completed many public art commissions and continually exhibits artwork nationally. Gillian's work is also on display locally at Davenport West High School and Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport.
