MercyOne Genesis Silvis and Gift of Hope celebrate National Donate Life Month

In honor of National Donate Life Month, MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center and the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network will raise the Donate Life flag to celebrate those who have chosen to share the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation.

The flag-raising ceremony will be held on Monday, April 21, at 3 p.m. at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center, 801 Illini Dr, Silvis. The flagpole is near the hospital's main entrance. The public is welcome to attend and share their experiences with organ and tissue donations. If inclement weather occurs, the ceremony will be held in the hospital chapel.

The event will feature a poignant program led by MercyOne Chaplain Darren Larkin, who will help raise the Donor Flag. This will be followed by a moment of silence to pay tribute to those who have generously given the ultimate gift of life and to acknowledge the recipients of these life-changing donations.

• Over the last 10 years, MercyOne Silvis has had 83 tissue and three organ donors, leading to five organ transplants.
• One tissue donor can impact about 75 lives.
