Inpatient Information

During your Visit

We sincerely hope your stay will be pleasant and comfortable. At MercyOne Genesis, our mission is to provide compassionate, quality health services to all those in need. As a patient, you are our number one priority. Our staff will strive to meet or exceed your expectations in every way. If you feel any of your needs are not being met, please contact the nurse manager of the unit. He or she will be happy to ensure that, if feasible, any need you may have is met as quickly as possible. We are here to be of service to you.

Dining Options

During your stay, MercyOne Genesis Medical Center will strive to provide you with nutritious, attractive and delicious meals. Your physician will order a diet that is appropriate for you. Most diets will allow you to select food items from a menu. Menus will be delivered to your room, then picked up by the hospital staff after you have made your selections.

All of our hospitals also provide cafeteria and vending machine options for visitors.

Length of Stay

Patients who are admitted to the hospital receive an initial diagnosis from their physician. Each diagnosis is assigned an average length of stay (LOS) by Medicare. Most insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines. Depending on your clinical situation and your progress with treatment, your LOS may be less than or greater than average.

Medicare and other insurance companies require hospitals to monitor LOS. Your healthcare team meets daily to assess any barriers to your discharge plan. We do this to assure you and your family will be ready for discharge. You may at some point receive a visit from a Resource Management Analyst to discuss your LOS. Social workers are available to assist you with preparations for discharge. For example, this may include finding a home care nurse to visit or making nursing home arrangements if you need special care. A listing of providers can be provided.

If you wish to speak with a medical social worker, please call 563-421-7000. Once your physician has written your discharge order, you should be ready to leave the facility within two hours. Please communicate with your family so that necessary transportation is arranged. If you have any questions regarding this, you may contact the Continuum Services department at 563-421-7000.
