Pharmacy Residency Program - Preceptors
Emily Doerfler, Pharm.D., BCPS
Emily Doerfler, Pharm.D., BCPS is the Inpatient Pharmacy Operations Supervisor at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 2014 and completed a PGY1 residency at Truman Medical Centers (now University Health) in Kansas City, MO. She received a Master of Science degree in Clinical Informatics and Patient-Centered Technologies from the University of Washington in 2023.
She serves as the preceptor for the Drug Policy residency learning experience. Her professional interests include pharmacy informatics, hospital operations, and process improvement.
Kirre Hannan, Pharm.D.
Kirre Hannan, Pharm.D., has been a clinical pharmacist at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center since 2017.
She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in 2015. She then went on to complete her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, in 2016 and a PGY2 Infectious Disease Residency at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2017.
She currently serves as a preceptor for the Orientation and Infectious Disease learning experiences at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center
Brooklyn Heims, Pharm.D.
Brooklyn Heims, Pharm.D., has been a pharmacist with MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center since graduating from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2023.
She first completed her PGY1 with MercyOne NEI and is now a staff pharmacist for the inpatient pharmacy and the emergency department. Brooklyn precepts residents in the Emergency Medicine and longitudinal Code Blue and Trauma learning experiences. She is also an active member of the EMS Medical Directors Collaborative of the Cedar Valley as a pharmacy representative and coordinator for ambulance medication kits.
When not at work, Brooklyn enjoys travelling with her family, reading a good fantasy or romance book, and thrift shopping.
Dana McDougall, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCOP
Dana McDougall, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCOP, is a clinical pharmacist at MercyOne Waterloo Cancer Treatment Center.
He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 residency at Northeast Iowa Family Practice Center. He has practiced in his current role since 2014 and currently serves as the preceptor for the Hematology/Oncology rotation. His professional interests include multiple myeloma and breast cancer. Dana is also an active member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
In his free time, he enjoys attending his children’s activities, golf, and fishing
Jodi Mills, Pharm.D.
Jodi Mills, Pharm.D., is a staff pharmacist at Mercy One Waterloo Medical Center.
She received her Pharmacy Doctorate degree from the University of Iowa in 1997. She started her pharmacy career in long term care and retail pharmacy before transitioning to inpatient pharmacy in 2007. Jodi serves as a co-preceptor for the critical care learning experience.
Outside of critical care medicine her interests include antimicrobial stewardship
Joseph Moore, Pharm.D.
Joseph Moore, Pharm.D., is a staff pharmacist at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has practiced at MercyOne since 1998 and currently serves as an adjunct assistant professor for Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Drake University – College of Pharmacy, and the University of Iowa – College of Pharmacy. He also is a preceptor for the Internal Medicine Pharmacy Practice learning experience.
His professional interests include antibiotic stewardship, internal medicine, critical care, and emergency medicine.
Jeni Rasmusson, Pharm.D.
Jeni Rasmusson, Pharm.D., is a transitions of care pharmacist at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa in 2018 and completed a PGY1 Community Pharmacy residency at UnityPoint Prairie Parkway Pharmacy in Cedar Falls, IA. After completing her residency Jeni worked in a community pharmacy for several years before transitioning roles to long term care consulting. Jeni precepts students for the transitions of care experience.
Her professional interests include geriatrics, long term care consulting, transitions of care, and medication therapy management.
Outside of work Jeni enjoys volunteering with Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls, teaching four-year-old Sunday School, and spending time with her family and her Great Dane, Moose.
Megan Schmauss, Pharm.D.
Megan Schmauss, Pharm.D., is the Residency Director and a transitions of care pharmacist at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 2010. Megan started her career in retail and long term care before coming to MercyOne in 2024.
Megan precepts students for the transitions of care learning experience. Her professional interests include geriatrics, transitions of care, and medication therapy management.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys staying active, spending time with her family, and shopping.
Kayla Wankum, Pharm.D., BCPS
Kayla Wankum, Pharm.D., BCPS, earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2016 from Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She completed a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center (formerly Covenant Medical Center) in 2017. After residency, she remained at MercyOne as a clinical pharmacist. She received her BCPS in 2019. She is currently a preceptor for the Critical Care and longitudinal Code Blue and Trauma experiences. Additionally, she participates in clinical trials with the MercyOne Northeast Iowa Family Medicine and Residency Clinical Research team. Outside of work, Kayla enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones.
Ryan Weaver, Pharm.D.
Ryan Weaver, Pharm.D.,is the Director of Pharmacy at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.
He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa.
He has practiced at MercyOne since 2022 and currently serves as the preceptor for the Administration learning experience. He was Manager of Acute Care and Cancer Center Pharmacy Services at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, Pharmacy Director at Mercy Hospital in Lebanon, MO and a Pharmacy Supervisor at Mercy hospital in Springfield, MO prior to his current role. He served as a preceptor for both the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Pharmacy.
His professional interests include process improvement, hospital operations, and pharmacy practice leadership.
