MercyOne North Iowa welcomes two certified nurse midwives to meet growing demand for women’s health care

MercyOne North Iowa has expanded its midwife team with the addition of two certified nurse midwives. Midwives work alongside physicians to support women through prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum, and routine gynecologic care. The addition of two new midwives to the team allows for access to more prenatal and postnatal care.

Amanda Schroeder, CNM, joined MercyOne North Iowa in April 2026 after 4 years practicing as a midwife at MercyOne Waterloo. Her connection to MercyOne North Iowa began even earlier as a labor and delivery nurse. Schroeder is dedicated to helping women feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout every stage of life.

Jayme Burman, CNM, joined MercyOne North Iowa in July 2026, bringing 20 years of midwifery experience and a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. Throughout her career, she has provided comprehensive women's health services and assisted in the delivery of more than 1,000 babies.

"As more women seek midwifery care, adding them to our team allows us to expand access and meet that growing need. Midwifery also adds another important perspective to our collaborative team of OB-GYN physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Together, we can offer patients more options while providing personalized, compassionate care that supports each woman's individual needs and goals."

Families also have access to 24/7 physician coverage with the OB/GYN and Pediatric Hospitalist Team, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), on-site blood bank services, lactation consultants, the Mother's Milk Depot and dispensary, and care at a Certified Safe Sleep Hospital.
