MercyOne is elevating minimally invasive care with the addition of two new da Vinci 5 robotic surgical systems, joining our existing da Vinci Xi platforms to give patients across Iowa access to some of the most advanced surgical technology available today. The da Vinci ecosystem is designed to enhance surgeon control, visualization and precision — supporting better outcomes and a more comfortable surgical experience.
What Is the da Vinci® Surgical System?
The da Vinci Surgical System is a robotic-assisted platform designed to enable minimally invasive surgery across a wide range of specialties. Built on nearly three decades of innovation, the da Vinci system includes a surgeon’s console, patient-side robotic arms, and advanced 3D vision — allowing surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions with exceptional precision, stability, and dexterity.
The robotic “wrists” of the da Vinci system mimic and extend the surgeon’s hands, offering a greater range of motion than human anatomy alone.
Is da Vinci Surgery Right for You?
Your MercyOne surgeon will review your condition, discuss all surgical options and determine whether robotic-assisted surgery is appropriate for your needs.
While the system provides enhanced precision and visualization, your surgeon is always in full control — the robot never acts independently.
Benefits of da Vinci Surgery
Minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery with da Vinci may offer patients:
- Smaller incisions and less scarring
- Less blood loss and lower infection risk
- Shorter hospital stays
- Reduced need for pain medication
- Faster return to normal activities
Surgeons benefit from enhanced 3D vision, fine instrument control and improved ergonomics, helping them perform delicate procedures with greater precision and stability.
Before surgery, your care team will walk you through your preparation steps, procedure plan, anesthesia and recovery. Most da Vinci procedures are performed with minimal incisions and shorter recovery times.
You’ll receive detailed post surgical instructions and follow up care designed to help you return to your daily life sooner.
