Ion Navigation Bronchoscopy

A minimally invasive way to reach and biopsy small, hard to reach lung nodules

The Ion™ robotic bronchoscopy system enables pulmonologists to navigate deep into the lungs with unmatched precision. Its ultra thin, highly maneuverable catheter and shape sensing technology help reach small nodules — even those located in the far periphery of the lung — for safer, more accurate biopsy.

How Ion™ Works

Ion™ uses an ultra thin catheter capable of 180° articulation paired with a 3D map of your lungs generated from CT imaging. Physicians navigate like a “GPS system,” following real time imaging to reach nodules across all 18 lung segments for biopsy.

Who Is a Candidate?

You may benefit from Ion™ if you have:

  • A suspicious lung nodule on CT scan
  • Small, peripheral nodules difficult to reach with conventional methods

Benefits of Ion™ Robotic Bronchoscopy

  • Earlier diagnosis of potential lung cancer
  • Greater stability and reach than manual bronchoscopy
  • Minimally invasive — no incisions required
  • High precision using continuous shape sensing technology
  • Outpatient procedure with quick recovery

You’ll undergo a CT scan to map your airways, then a minimally invasive biopsy while under anesthesia. Most patients go home the same day.
