What We Treat

Our neurosurgeons help with:

  • Pinched nerves that cause pain or numbness.
  • Spine injuries or instability.
  • Serious spinal cord problems.
  • Brain and spine tumors.
  • Movement disorders like tremors or Parkinson’s disease.

When should you see a neurosurgeon?

You may need to see a neurosurgeon if you have any of these conditions:

  • Ongoing back, neck or shoulder pain – If your pain is caused by a spine injury or instability, surgery might help. Your doctor may suggest you try physical therapy or other treatments first.
  • Pinched nerve – This can cause pain, weakness or numbness. If medicine, therapy and injections don’t help after four to six weeks, surgery might be the next step.
  • Spinal cord compression – If you suddenly have trouble walking, weakness or lose control of your bladder or bowels, you should see a neurosurgeon right away.
  • Brain or spine tumor – Neurosurgeons treat tumors affecting the brain or spinal cord.
  • Movement disorder – Conditions like Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor or obsessive-compulsive disorder may be treated with a special surgery called deep brain stimulation.

What Should You Do First?

Start by talking to your primary care doctor. They can help figure out if you need to see a neurosurgeon or try other treatments first.
