Elevate Your Expertise in Diabetes Care

The Diabetes Specialty Sub-track at MercyOne Genesis Quad-Cities Family Medicine Residency offers a unique, immersive training experience for residents passionate about advanced diabetes management. Offered as a two-year longitudinal (PGY-2 & PGY-3), residents gain 500+ hours of direct patient care, hands-on training in cutting-edge diabetes technologies & therapies, and exposure to multidisciplinary, team-based care—preparing them with advanced skills for diabetes management in primary care and the emerging field of primary care diabetology. There are many career opportunities that exist with this path.

At completion of the Sub-track the graduating resident will meet all qualifying criteria to sit for the Board Certification in Advanced Diabetes Management certification exam (BC-ADM) in addition to their FM Board Certification Exam and achieve this additional Board Certification designation.

Comprehensive Clinical Experience – Residents manage patients across outpatient, inpatient, and specialty settings, including participation in dedicated family medicine diabetes continuity clinics, OB diabetes care, and shared medical visits.

Multidisciplinary Learning – Collaborate with endocrinologists, clinical pharmacists, diabetes educators, nutritionists, and social support services to address the comprehensive needs of those with diabetes.

Innovative Training – Hands-on experience with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin pump therapy, motivational interviewing, and social determinants of health interventions.

Didactic & Research Opportunities – Participate in monthly diabetes-focused didactics, engage in peer-to-peer discussions on landmark studies and emerging advances in diabetes care, present case-based discussions, and lead a scholarly project in diabetes management.
